Veterans Day 2026 Free Meals and Restaurant Deals

Roadside diner with a red EAT sign and an American flag flying above the roof

Veterans Day 2026 falls on Wednesday, 11 November, and the big free meals are already starting to line up. As of today, three national chains have confirmed 2026 offers on their own websites: Chili’s (a free entrée from a limited menu), Golden Corral (a free buffet and drink from 4 p.m. to close) and Red Robin (a free Red’s Big Tavern Burger with Bottomless Steak Fries). All three are dine-in only. Most other chains, including Applebee’s, Denny’s, Olive Garden and Texas Roadhouse, usually announce in late October or early November, so below we list what each offered in 2025 and what to watch for.

Last updated 18 October 2026. We update this list as chains confirm their 2026 offers.

Confirmed for Veterans Day 2026

These offers come straight from each chain’s own 2026 page. We opened each page and checked the dates and fine print.

Chili’s: free entrée from a limited menu

Chili’s says that “all veterans & active military members can get a free meal on Veterans Day November 11, 2026” at participating restaurants. The 2026 choices shown are Chicken Crispers, Chicken Bacon Ranch Quesadillas, the Oldtimer Burger with Cheese, and Soup & House Salad. The fine print reads “valid only on 11/11/2026,” dine-in only from a limited menu, with no substitutions, and beverages and gratuity not included. The page does not spell out which proof of service it accepts and suggests calling your local restaurant. Source: Chili’s Veterans Day page.

Golden Corral: Military Appreciation Night

Golden Corral’s 26th Military Appreciation Night runs on Wednesday, 11 November 2026, from 4 p.m. until close, with a free “thank you” buffet and beverage. Its FAQ says anyone who has served in the U.S. military is eligible: retirees, veterans, active duty, National Guard and Reserves. Family and friends are welcome but pay regular dinner prices, there are no rain checks, and there is no takeout version of the meal. The 2026 FAQ does not list a proof-of-service requirement. Red Robin: free Red’s Big Tavern Burger

Red Robin’s fine print offers one free Red’s Big Tavern Burger with Bottomless Steak Fries “only on Wednesday, 11/11/26.” It is dine-in only at participating restaurants for veterans and active-duty military members “with valid military ID or proof of service.” No purchase is needed. It cannot be combined with other offers, including Red Robin Royalty, and it is not valid for catering, third-party, online, mobile app or to-go orders. Source: Red Robin Veterans Day page.

Offered in 2025: watch for the 2026 confirmation

The chains below offered free meals or discounts on Veterans Day 2025. None had posted 2026 terms when we checked on 18 October 2026. Past offers are a good guide but not a promise, since chains change menus, hours and rules from year to year. We will move each chain into the confirmed section once it announces.

A few more chains appeared on the 2025 lists we checked. Bob Evans offered a complimentary meal for veterans and active-duty members, Dunkin’ gave a free donut, Krispy Kreme gave a free small coffee and doughnut, and Mission BBQ gave veterans a free sandwich, according to CNY Central’s 2025 roundup, which also noted that “each location may have its own participation rules.” Denny’s and IHOP both appeared on WBTV’s 2025 list, with IHOP offering a free Red, White and Blueberry Pancake Combo.

Who qualifies for Veterans Day free meals

Almost every offer covers veterans and active-duty service members. Beyond that, the rules vary by chain:

  • National Guard and Reserves. Some chains name them explicitly. Golden Corral’s 2026 FAQ includes National Guard and Reserves, and Applebee’s 2025 release covered “Active Duty Military, Veterans, Reserves, and National Guard members.” Others simply say “veterans and active military,” so ask if you are unsure.
  • Retirees. Usually included. Denny’s 2025 offer was for “active and retired military personnel.”
  • Spouses and family. Rarely included in the free meal itself. Golden Corral welcomes family but charges them regular prices. Starbucks was a notable exception in 2025, extending its free coffee to military family members.
  • One per person. Most offers limit the free meal to the person who served, one per visit, and it usually cannot be combined with coupons or loyalty rewards.

What proof of service to bring

Restaurants rarely demand one specific document, but you will move faster with one of these. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says each of the first four can be used “to get discounts offered to Veterans at many stores, businesses, and restaurants” (VA: Veteran ID cards):

  • Department of Defense ID card, for active duty, retirees and certain Guard and Reserve members.
  • Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC), if you are enrolled in VA health care.
  • Veteran ID Card (VIC), a digital photo ID for veterans with an honorable or general discharge, so you do not need to carry discharge papers.
  • Veteran designation on a state driver’s licence or ID, offered by all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
  • DD-214 or other discharge papers. Denny’s accepted a DD-214 in 2025. Consider carrying a copy rather than the original.
  • Other proof some chains accept. Applebee’s 2025 list also included a current Leave and Earnings Statement, a veterans organization card such as the American Legion or VFW, and a photograph of yourself in uniform or wearing your uniform.

Golden Corral said in 2025 that military identification was not required for its free meal, but most chains do ask. When in doubt, bring two forms.

How to plan your Veterans Day meal

Expect dine-in only. Every confirmed 2026 offer is dine-in only, and so were most 2025 offers. Chipotle’s 2025 deal excluded mobile, online, catering and delivery orders, and Red Robin’s 2026 terms exclude to-go and third-party orders. If you were hoping to order through an app, check the fine print first.

Watch the hours. Some offers run all day, but many do not. In 2025 Denny’s ran its Grand Slam from 5 a.m. to noon, Chipotle from 4 to 8 p.m., and Texas Roadhouse handed out vouchers from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Golden Corral’s 2026 event starts at 4 p.m.

Call ahead. Nearly every offer says “participating locations,” and franchised restaurants can opt out or set their own rules. Chili’s 2026 page itself suggests calling your local restaurant. A quick call also tells you how busy they expect to be and whether there is a wait.

Plan around the weekday. Because 11 November 2026 is a Wednesday, many veterans will fit their meal around work. If your schedule allows, an off-peak visit may mean a shorter wait.

Tip on the full value. The meal is free, but your server’s time is not. Tip on what the meal would have cost; Chili’s and Applebee’s both note that gratuity is not included. Our look at the real cost of eating out in 2026 explains why the tip matters so much to restaurant staff right now.

Bring the family, but budget for them. Free meals are usually for the person who served only. Drinks are often extra too. If you want more ways to save the rest of the year, see our guide to finding the best fast food deals.

Why Veterans Day is on 11 November

Veterans Day began as Armistice Day. Fighting in World War I stopped when an armistice took effect “on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month,” 11 November 1918. A 1938 law made the date a legal holiday, and in 1954 Congress replaced the word “Armistice” with “Veterans” so the day would honor American veterans of all wars. It briefly moved to a Monday under the 1968 Uniform Holiday Bill before returning to 11 November in 1978. You can read the full history at VA’s History of Veterans Day.

Frequently asked questions

When is Veterans Day 2026?

Wednesday, 11 November 2026. Veterans Day is always observed on 11 November, whatever day of the week it falls on.

Which restaurants have confirmed free meals for Veterans Day 2026?

As of 18 October 2026, Chili’s, Golden Corral and Red Robin have posted 2026 offers on their own websites. Others usually confirm closer to the date, and we will update this page as they do.

Do I need a DD-214 to get a free meal?

Not usually. Most restaurants accept a military ID, VA health card, Veteran ID Card or a veteran-designated driver’s licence. A DD-214 works too, but you do not need to carry the original.

Can spouses get a free Veterans Day meal?

Generally no. The free meal is for the person who served. A few offers have included family; Starbucks extended its 2025 free coffee to military family members.

Can I get my free meal as takeout?

Usually not. Chili’s, Golden Corral and Red Robin’s 2026 offers are all dine-in only, and most 2025 offers were too. Starbucks, which honored its 2025 offer at the drive-through, was an exception.

Are Veterans Day free meals available at every location?

No. Most offers apply at participating locations only, and franchise owners can choose whether to take part. Call your local restaurant before you go.

Before you head out on 11 November

Pick your restaurant, confirm by phone that it is participating, check the hours, and put your military ID, VA card or Veteran ID Card in your wallet the night before. Plan to dine in, allow extra time, and tip your server on the full value of the meal. Check back as the day gets closer, because we add new 2026 confirmations as chains announce them. And if a veteran in your life does not know about these offers, send them this page.
